SALYAN - A NEW TOURISM DESTINATION IN NEPAL !

Salyan,a "hill" district lying in mid western part of Nepal is regarded as one of the exciting potential tourism destinations in the country because of its ancient, historical ,cultural and natural heritages.
Salyan is bounded by Rolpa to the east, Surkhet & Bardiya to the west, Rukum & Jajarkot to the north and Dang & Banke to the south. District headquarters Khalanga lies approximately 500 km west of Kathmandu. The surrounding greenery hills, scenic grander and magnificent natural surroundings has enhanced the glory of Khalanga Bajaar .
The climate is neither too hot nor too cool while altitude ranges from 300 m from the basin of Babai River to 2000 m in the highlands. The surface area of the district is 1,462 km².
Salyan was one of the Baise Rajya, a confederation of 22 petty kingdoms in the Karnali region. About 1760 AD all these kingdoms were annexed by the Shah Dynasty during the unification of Nepal.
Salyan is known for its Hindu temples including Shiva temples in Chhayachhetra and Laxmipur, and the Devi temple at Khairabang in Hiwalcha VDC, one of nine in Nepal .Salyan is also famous in all over Nepal for its oranges, ginger & Salyani Sirupate Khukuri .

How to Reach Salyan ?

Salyan lies 513.4 km west from the Capital Kathmandu . Salyan is well connected through road and there are numbers of buses and mini buses plying to Salyan from Dang , Kathmandu & Nepaljung . You will reach Khalanga, Salyan’s district headquarter after a Sixteen-hour bus ride from Kathmandu , seven hour form Nepanjung & 3 hours form Dang via the Rapti highway . This highway will further take you to Rukum.

Tourism in Salyan :

There are number of tourist places to visit in Salyan bounded by mountains, lakes, charming valleys, caves and many more tourist destination . One of the great expect of Salyani is tourism development . There are many unexplored tourism area because of the geographical structure and many more hazards. The district needs to plan tourism strategy by keeping in mind various aspects like tourism activities, promotion of tourist destinations, development of physical infrastructure, enhancing quality of hotel services, elongating stay time along others.
Khairabang Temple ,Chhayachhetra Temple , Laxmipur Gangamala Temple ,Kupinde Lake ,Shreenagar Valley, Kumaakh Lekh, Tinchahare Jharana ,Tribeni Dham , Sharada River , Shiva Cave , Siddanath lekh , Kapukot Bajar ,Khalanga Bajar ,Kachhuwa Daha are the prominent tourist hotspots of the district. In addition, various ancient temples, historical sites, enchanting sceneries, caves and diverse nature are the other attaractions of the district and are considered important in terms of Tourism.

Some places to visit in Salyan :

Kapurkot :

Kapurkot,the gateway to Salyan,21 km North of Tulsipur, the zonal headquarter of Rapti, on the Tulsipur- Salyan road has one of the country’s busiest markets from where fresh fruits and vegetables are dispatched to many cities of the country. The National Ginger Research Centre also located here. Kapurkot is also Renowned as the commercial place of Salyan District & also famous for its moderate climate for living.

Mulpani Botanical Garden, Kapurkot :

Mulpani botanical garden is established in 1990 and covers an area 5.5 ha. It is located near to the Mulpani Village , 2-3 km (approx) near to the Kapurkot Bajar .
More than 30 orchids species are conserved in this garden. Some economic and medicinal plants like Amomum subulatum, Asparagus racemosus, Daphne bholua, Mentha piperita, Mentha spicata, Rauwolfia serpentine, Swertia chiraita, Valeriana jatamansi, Zingiber officinale, Aloe vera, etc. are also cultivated successfully.
Opening Hours: 10 AM to 4 PM Kartik 16 to Magh 15 (Ist week of Nov. to 4th week of jan.) 10 AM to 5 PM Rest of the months.

Kumakh Hill :

Kumakh is situated at an altitude of 2537m north of Salyan is the first highest hill around Salyan District. It lies as a junction of jimali,marmaparikada & Siddheswari VDC's. At the top of this hill , a temple named Sidda Mandir is located.The Siddha Baba Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a pilgrimage site for many Hindu devotees.

The hill abounds in scenic grander and magnificent natural surroundings.A mere 2 hours climb on foot, One would reach the top of the hill.

The impressive meadow on the hill top is an ideal spot to view the breathtaking scenes of Sisne Himal ,Dhaulagiri Himal , Chakhure Himal , and many more Himalayan peaks in the north to the lush green wide expanse of plains of Terai in the south.At the various part of this Kumakh Hill, many caves are situated there.

Kupinde:

Kupinde Taal GATE
Kupinde Lake is the one of the greatest lake among Rapti zone .Around 24 km west of Khalanga, lies Kupinde village. Here, the sprawling Kupinde Lake makes for an awesome sight. Surrounded by hills on all sides, the lake has remained free from any tampering. It is truly pristine. Locals say that the lake changes its hue three times every year. A temple dedicated to Barahdev is located adjacent to the lake where devotees come to pay respect twice every year, once during February and the other time during April.
Information About Kupinde Taal :- Total area : 23.53 hectares .Depth : 34m.Length :834m .Width :538. The amount of water 54 lakh 82 thousand 5 hundred 74 cubic meters &1120 m above sea level

Khairabang temple

In Sarada Municipality of the district, the of Khairabang is located. At around 1600 ft above sea level, the temple attracts visitors who want to do away with vices such as anger, greed, lust and jealousy.
The temple hosts thousands of devotees twice every year when for 15 days, animal sacrifices are offered to the temple’s goddess Bhawani Bhuwaneswari.
The temple can be reached from Khalanga via road. The 27 ropanis of land where the temple is located is relatively organised and holds potential to transform into a major pilgrimage site.

Chattreswori DeviTemple :

Chattreswori DeviTemple dedicated to Chattreswori devi in Chayachetra is the only Shaktipith in Nepal where animals are not sacrificed. It is believed that Lord Shiva rested the dead body of his wife Satidevi in this temple. The temple holds immense significance for Hindus.
It is located 19 km away from the district headquarter Khalanga. Spread in over 50 ropanis of land, the sprawling temple complex is host to many rituals that is unique to the region. North to the temple, you can see a massive fossil, which is believed to hold the remnants of Satidevi. Locals believe that the fossil holds the entire district of Salyan (it is only visible to the faithful!).

Salyani Khukuri:

Salyan, the founder of Salyani khukuri is the only one that has retained the originality and authenticity of its khukuri of the ancient existence till date completely ignoring the modern demand, time and adjustment.The shape of the Salyani blade is very unique and distinctive with patterns (carvings) all along the panel of the blade.
The blade is semi curved, almost a crescent shape with no shoulder (peak) at all. A series of pattern is forged all along the top panel of the blade on both sides.The bevel of the knife is also much bigger (deeper) than the regular ones.The scabbard of the Salyani is also very special and laborious. It is where all the time, effort and money is invested. The making or preparation of this special kind of buffalo leather is a painstaking job that needs hard work and patience. There are hundreds of Khukuri Makers in Salyan .

Shreenagar :

Shreenagar Bajaar !
Shreenagar , Renowned as the main commercial place of Salyan . The surrounding green hills and the nearby Sharada River has enhanced the glory of Shreenagar Bajaar . It is also known as transportation hub of Salyan . It is bounded by two small rivers named sukhekhola at east and Bhagwati Khola at west. The Radhakrishna Mandir and a very historical SIBAA THAN is located at Shreenagar .

  3. Today i memory that as we ignore nearest pilgrim we are unknown about these beautiful sites of our district .
    Really kumakh is not less valuable than chinese rainbow mountain, sarada river is not less valuable than amazon river and khairabang temple is not less valuable than ankarbhat temple in comnodia.
    So,it is really true that , motherland is greater than heaven.
